Enchanted Forest Art Show

A very special art show in a magical setting!

The Enchanted Forest is a fantastic backdrop for an annual celebration and art show. Like a studio tour, but without the driving, this artistic fair offers its guests a glimpse into the techniques and inspiration that create fine works of art.

Held in the scenic gardens, courtyards, and studios at Wood’s End, this event showcases talented professionals who share their enthusiasm for their medium as they display and demonstrate their craft.

Visitors can chat with award-winning artists, learn how their work takes shape, relax in the spectacular gardens, and explore The Enchanted Forest: a truly unique experience!

A distinctive art show
The 6th annual Enchanted Forest Art Show will take place on August 10th and 11th, 2013, from 10 to 5. The show is 'rain or shine': the artists are in tents and studios, and a sheltered dining area is available. This year's show features over 30 talented artists who make the event a true 'woodland art experience' by demonstrating their techniques. The quality and variety of the art make this juried show distinctive: scroll down the page to see the artwork and biographies for the artists of the 2013 Enchanted Forest Art Show. Admission is by donation, raising funds for the local branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). VISA and Mastercard are accepted by all artists. Address and driving directions are on the Contact tab.

A tasty lunch in the gardens!
The Enchanted Forest Art Show likes to complement the visual experience with culinary delights. Delicious lunch options and beverages are available on-site. Tables are set up in the gardens for 'al fresco' dining among the flowers and trees at Wood's End Studio. The Gourmet Station of Orillia will once again be serving up appetizing treats for the 2013 show!

DONABIE, Wendie
Through her art, Wendie aims to express the spirit and inner light in both animate and inanimate objects. She finds the process of transforming blank paper or canvas into a painting magical, as if the paint is drawing forth images hidden in the fibres. She currently focuses on painting Muskoka landscapes inspired by the fascinating trees and root systems photographed while hiking. She often discovers almost human qualities in the trees and recognizes unique characteristics in each one, just like people. Wendie invites the viewer to enter in and experience the painting subject, to be moved by the mood and spirit created by her brush. Often, there is a mystical quality found in both her watercolour and acrylic work. www.WendieDonabie.com / info@wendiedonabie.com / 705-646-3663

FEIST, Janice
Janice's brush is fearless in representing the mood, colour, and textures of her subjects. She is captivated by the way light reflects on surfaces, the way a branch curves in dance-like fashion to reach the sun, the way shadows play with colour. She works from nature, recollections of time, photographs, sometimes from a dream. From soft watercolours to bold acrylics her paintings precisely communicate her experience and the energy and beauty that motivated her. www.JaniceFeist.com / esconpj@sympatico.ca / 705-645-9134

FISH, Karen
Karen creates spectacular jewellery from diverse techniques such as stringing, stitching, chainmail and wire work, which she will demonstrate. Inspired by nature, colour and bling, Karen likes to use elements like Swarovski crystals in her work, and enjoys mixing unconventional colours together. She gets her inspiration by seeing the change of scenery each season in her native Muskoka, creating pieces that use the seasonal colouration. studiokbeading@gmail.com / 705-646-1885

HARKNESS, Deborah
Changing an art medium is quite a unique and tremendously rewarding experience. From pencil and pen sketching and moving on to "steel", Deb finally found the medium where she can express herself to the fullest (or maybe it found her). In 2001, Deb studied Blacksmithing at Sir Sanford Fleming College. Upon completion of this course, she worked for a blacksmith shop and continued to critique her art. She finds it a wonderful challenge to find new ideas to create in steel: from decorative sign brackets, flowers, tables, lights, candles, garden art, mirrors, wall hangings, just to name a few. www.deb.harkness.com / deb.harkness@hotmail.com / 705-764-0180

HARRIS, Erika
Inspired by Muskoka's incredible natural beauty, Erika's touch with nature evokes the essence of her inspirations, and enables exploration of her personal response to this abundant beauty. She lovingly captures this essence on canvas using oil and acrylic paints. As a multi-media artist, she also creates one-of-a-kind artisan jewellery using semi-precious gemstones, crystals, or glass, as well as wool to create realistic needle felting and traditional rug hooking scenes. harris.erika@sympatico.ca / 705-684-9199

She is inspired by the wonder and beauty of our world and its creations. Her love of nature and inner spirituality are revealed in every sculpture she creates. Andrea believes that teddy bears are a universal part of everyone’s childhood, and each of her bears has its own personality. 705-326-1947

McCONNELL, Charlene
A recreational pottery class over a decade ago began Charlene’s obsession with clay, and she enrolled in the ceramics intensive program at the Haliburton School of the Arts, graduating in 2005. Working in stoneware and porcelain to create fun and functional items, Charlene uses the potter’s wheel, slabs and extrusions in her designs. Influenced by the magnificence of the Haliburton landscape, her forms are fluid and voluminous with graceful curves and understated elegance. Often incorporating real leaves and collected materials from woodland hikes to enhance the visual narrative, Charlene views her work with clay as an elaborate and exhilarating dance. A successful creation begins with the twirl of the potter’s wheel, through the heat of the kiln and the patron, after viewing the piece and embracing it for themselves, signals the consummation of the waltz. charmcc11@gmail.com / 705-448-2966

MELO, John

TINKLER, Stacy
As a self-taught abstract artist living in Muskoka, Stacy was inspired to start painting by her longtime friend and Contemporary Paper Artist, Col Mitchell. She found herself creating fine, fluid lines and developed a particular obsession with circles, trees and flowers. Stacy begins with only a vague conception of the outcome, starting with an impulsively chosen colour and building into a delicate form in unanticipated patterns. Fine detailed flourishes and circles with wispy tendrils are created with fine brushes, calligraphy pens, acrylic ink and fluid acylics. www.StacyTinkler.com / tinklerstacy@gmail.com / 705-952-0250

VAN EERD, Leo
Leo started creating metal art items in 1994 as a gift for his daughter, but soon branched out into garden sculptures made from garden tools, shovels, rakes, nuts and bolts. His goal is to create a sculpture with the tools in their original state. Old discs, cultivators, and other metal machinery are transformed into animals such as fish, ducks, geese, insects, birds, and other creatures. With sculptures from coast to coast in Canada and throughout Europe and the U.S.A., Leo is constantly coming up with new ideas. vaneerdmary@gmail.com / 519-676-4962

WELFARE, Leslie
Leslie Welfare of Silver Side Up Studio works with metal clays to make jewellery and other small pieces. Using microscopic particles of metal (silver, gold, opper, bronze, steel) mixed with an organic binder and water, Leslie shapes the clay, then dries and fires it to make it as durable as cast silver metal. Some gemstones and glass can be fired with the silver, while others are incorporated into the work after firing. www.SilverWhimsey.com / silversideupstudio@live.ca / 705-326-2905

WHITTLE, Pat
Pat is an award-winning Canadian artist who enjoys the effects of brilliant colours in encaustic, oils and acrylic mediums. Pat started painting rather late in her life by enrolling in a night-school course at Durham College in Oshawa, which mainly focused on getting bold, bright colours down on the watercolour paper. So excited by the experience, she continued to search out workshops that let her express her visions and expand her knowledge. She loves the camaraderie of painting and crafting with like-minded people. patjwhittle.com patwhittleart.blogsite.ca / paviartwhittle@sympatico.ca / 705-646-0011
