Picturesque
southern Muskoka is home to artist John de Lang and his Wood's End
Studio. Set at the edge of a forest, its windows flood the studio
with light and offer a panoramic view of the flora and fauna of the
surrounding area.
It is not unusual to spy a deer
strolling across the lawn, while squirrels and chipmunks chase each other
around the trees. The numerous birdfeeders set around the
studio welcome many different species, while the flowers invite the
countless ruby-throated hummingbirds.
The
scenic woodland view from the large picture window in the
Showroom
is a perfect backdrop for
John’s bird carvings, while the
Gift Shop
and Courtyard Gallery showcase one-of-a-kind gifts handcrafted by
Canadian artisans.
John’s love of nature expresses itself in the gardens that surround
the studio. A large pebbled pond is filled with water plants, and
bordered by flowers peeping out among the rockery and behind the
waterfall. A circular garden contains sectional flower patches set
off by a stone fountain; and, on a whimsical note, the “Winds of
Time” setting suggests nature’s beautiful reclamation of an
abandoned wind-damaged cabin. A decidedly unique feature at Wood’s
End is the magical fairytale realm among the trails of
"The
Enchanted Forest". |
